Does Overhead Buddy guarantee my bag will be accepted?
No tool can guarantee acceptance. Airline staff make final decisions at the gate. This checker compares your bag to official published limits to help you make an informed decision before traveling.
Does every airline have different carry-on size limits?
Yes. While many airlines have similar limits, small differences (even half an inch) can affect whether your bag qualifies as carry-on.
Do airlines include wheels and handles in carry-on measurements?
Yes. Most airlines measure total outer dimensions, including wheels, handles, and any protruding pockets. Always measure the full exterior size of your packed bag.
What happens if my carry-on is slightly oversized?
Enforcement depends on the airline and airport. Slightly oversized bags may fit in overhead bins but could be gate-checked if they don't fit in sizing frames.
Should I measure my carry-on empty or packed?
Measure your bag fully packed, especially if it is soft-sided. Fabric bags can expand when filled, and airlines evaluate the bag as presented at the gate.
What if my airline does not list personal item dimensions?
Some airlines do not clearly publish personal item size limits. In those cases, we use a default dimension of 18×14×8 in (45.72 × 35.56 × 20.32 cm) to determine if it will fit. Final enforcement is always at the discretion of airline staff.
Are inches and centimeters exact when converting airline limits?
Not always. Airlines sometimes publish dimensions in inches or centimeters with rounding. When converted, the numbers may differ slightly (for example, 55 cm is 21.65 inches). Small rounding differences can affect borderline bags, so we compare using standardized conversions.
Can I compare multiple airlines at once?
Yes! You can select multiple airlines to see how the same bag performs across different carrier size restrictions. This is helpful for connecting flights or round-trip travel.
