Measuring Your Bag

When measuring your bag, always use the outermost dimensions by including the wheels, top and side handles, and any protruding side pockets. If it sticks out, airlines count it.

For soft-sided luggage, ensure the bag is fully packed before measuring to account for any natural expansion.

Don't worry if your bag's manufacturer labels dimensions as Height × Width × Depth instead of Length × Width × Height. As long as you provide all three numbers, our system automatically handles the calculation regardless of the order you enter them.

How Overhead Buddy Works

Overhead Buddy compares your bag's size against published carry-on and personal item limits for each airline.

Because enforcement can vary at the gate, we don't just show pass or fail. We also flag borderline cases, like soft-sided bags that may fit if compressed.

You'll see:

  • Whether your bag fits, might fit, or won't fit
  • Which dimension causes issues (if any)
  • Other airlines where the same bag works as a carry-on

Final enforcement is always at the discretion of airline staff.
